What To Expect

Physical Therapist Reviewing Patient Info

Do I Need A Referral?

One of the most common questions we receive is “Do I need a referral to book an appointment?”.  Physical Therapists are primary healthcare providers in Canada which means a referral is not required to access physical therapy!  Where this can sometimes become grey is if you are planning to be reimbursed by a private insurance provider. Some (not all!) insurance providers require a physician’s referral before they will reimburse you. Therefore, it is best to check with your insurance company if a referral is required.

Appointment Time

One hour is allotted for all initial assessments to allow for a thorough evaluation and treatment.  Twenty to thirty minutes are allotted for all follow-up appointments.  Both appointment times do include time for proper recording by the physical therapist.  Your appointment time is reserved just for you.  Please review the cancellation policy below.

What Should I Wear?

The Physical Therapist will be assessing how you move.  Please wear comfortable clothing that you are able to move freely in and supportive, clean footwear.  Often, during the initial assessment and subsequent treatments; it is necessary to expose areas of the body requiring treatment.  Every effort will be made to keep you comfortable and maintain modesty. Wearing a tank-top or bringing shorts can aid in accessing some body parts. Please let your therapist know if you are uncomfortable at any time.

What Should I Bring?

Please consider bringing the following;

- supportive, clean footwear

- shorts (for lower extremity assessments)

- wearing a tank top (for upper extremity assessments)

- health card number

- list of medications and past surgeries

-SGI or WCB claim number, if applicable
